Catchment-scale River restoration project on 2km reach of the river Kennet.
Please click to view each reach on the interactive map below .

"The River Kennet between Marlborough and Woolhampton is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest.  It is a nationally important example of a chalk river which supports an abundance of wildlife. Natural England works with owners and managers of SSSIs and to secure the conservation and enhancement of England’s important wildlife sites.  Certain reaches of the River Kennet SSSI have been degraded by past river engineering practices. Affected reaches have lost their natural form and fail to exhibit the classic characteristics of a chalk river. At Avington Estate, Environmental Stewardship funding is being used to support sensitive management of the river and its floodplain and the restoration of degraded river sections."
